Biomechanics and Aging Mobility (BAM) Lab
Welcome to the Biomechanics and Aging Mobility (BAM) Lab at SDSU!
We study how and why walking changes as people get older. Our goal is to understand what makes it harder to stay stable and move confidently in everyday life, especially in situations that require quick adjustments like avoiding obstacles or walking while distracted.
We use tools like motion capture, instrumented treadmills, and wearable sensors to study how people walk, adapt, and recover their balance. Many of our studies involve real-world challenges, such as multitasking while walking or responding to unexpected changes in the environment.
By better understanding these changes, we aim to develop practical, evidence-based strategies to reduce fall risk, improve balance, and help older adults stay active, independent, and safe in their daily lives.
